Uniform Civil Code – A Step Forward or Threat to Diversity?
The central government has reiterated its push for implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across India. Uttarakhand has become the first state to enact UCC legislation. Proponents argue it ensures gender equality and national unity. Critics say it threatens the religious and cultural autonomy of minority communities guaranteed under the Constitution.

UCC is essential for true secularism. How can we have different personal laws for different religions? The Supreme Court itself has recommended it multiple times.
This feels like cultural homogenisation disguised as reform. India's diversity is its strength, not a problem to be solved.
We need a national consultation process. Just legislating this top-down will create resentment and social unrest.
